Objective

To visualize the noise sources in a power seat adjuster mechanism.

Test Procedure

  1. The seat adjuster was set up upside down on a test bench.
  2. A 60-microphone array was used to capture acoustic pressure data close to the front and side components of the mechanism.
  3. Data was captured for 6 seconds.
  4. Acoustic pressure was reconstructed on a surface covering the front motor, cable housing, gear boxes.

Results

The following screenshot shows the reconstructed acoustic pressure spectrum at a point above the motor. The spectrum shows multiple peaks Sweeping through these peak frequencies revealed that different components were responsible for generating noise at different frequencies.

The screenshots below show the noise sources for some key frequencies.
