Larson Davis - SenSound partnership brings quickest and most accurate sound analysis and imaging to the market
May 17, 2004, Provo, UT - Larson Davis and SenSound have partnered to supply the market with an integrated set of sound analysis and imaging tools for high-resolution diagnosis of 3D, vibro-acoustic sources and sound transmission paths that produce definitive results in less time than any other technology available. The systems are fully integrated to significantly reduce the set-up and calibration times, and the complexities involved in test implementation.
The hardware-heart of the systems is the Larson Davis Digital Sensor System (DSS). By implementing the revolutionary Digital Sensor Interface Transmitter (DSIT) technology, up to 64 transducers (microphones and accelerometers) can be interfaced to a single DSS chassis using low-cost, multi-channel cables capable of handling up to 16 transducers each. For acoustic applications, prepolarized microphones ( ¼" and ½" ) are used with ICP-powered microphone preamplifiers having TEDS capability, greatly simplifying system setup and calibration.
The software-heart is SenSound's SenAH (SenSound Acoustic Holography) software. A fully configured SenAH system allows users, with far less effort, to visualize acoustic radiation from a vibrating object and identify noise sources and their transmission paths on complex structures. The result is quieter machinery and facilities, more efficient and cost-effective product development, improved quality control, and increased consumer satisfaction.
"This software tool makes it possible to pinpoint the exact source of noise in a wide range of products from automobile brakes and door panels to washing machines and other consumer appliances," said Dr. Wu, inventor of the technology and Charles DeVlieg Professor at Wayne State University's College of Engineering. "It allows the user to see the origin of sound and watch it travel through three-dimensional space and time. The speed, ease of use, level of accuracy, resolution, and the breadth of frequency response are well beyond anything else available on the market today, as is the ability to accurately map sound sources that are non-planar, i.e., arbitrary 3D surfaces."
Sergio Mazza, the company's president & CEO stated: "SenSound's diagnostic tools dramatically reduce the cost and time of engineering out noise from products. They also enable the user to demonstrate that products meet customer specifications in an objective, credible and easy to understand manner, before and after production begins, by providing a detailed and quantifiable analysis of relative sound volumes. SenSound's technologies can be critical to a company's competitive advantage by enhancing their customer's perception of premium quality - leading to greater revenues, margins and market share."
SenSound provides software, integrated systems and services for:
Manufacturing companies that want to -
- identify and reduce noise from their products or manufacturing systems
- improve manufacturing quality control process for in-line or end of line product testing
- conduct product or machinery failure analysis or machinery preventive maintenance
Architectural and engineering firms that want to -
- reduce the intrusion of external environmental noise
- reduce internally generated noise from HVAC equipment and other sources
